Gene Vector Repository

Our Collection is Growing...

This past year the VDL has received multiple requests for vectors that we have previously generated for our clients. We have been attempting to link the owner of the vectors to the requestors, so that they can avoid the expense of re-creating the viruses. This endeavor has led us to establish a vector repository, which more formally provides a mechanism for investigators to search and identify currently created vectors. We predict that the handful of duplicate requests for virus creation we received within the past year, are a gross underestimate of the number of viruses duplicated. Further, many investigators thinking about experiments would be more inclined to perform the studies if these tools were already currently available.

With each vector we produce, we offer investigators the option to submit vectors into the repository. However, we DO NOT need to the lab that constructed your vector. Anyone interested in depositing a vector can do so - just contact us and we'll get the process moving.

With each vector deposit, the owner of the vector can decide if they want an MTA signed by vector requestors, if they want to be contacted by the requestor or if they want to provide their vector freely. In any case, we will notify the depositor of requests for their vector.

Benefits to Vector Depositors

You many question how vector depositors can benefit from the repository. The first advantage is recognition, recognition, recognition. All vectors in the collection will be cataloged in a database and published on our website. For each vector deposited, you will be listed as the depositor, or not if you choose. Again, if you want, your contact information and citations using the vectors will be included on the site.

By depositing vectors, you are also assured safe and reliable storage. Vector management and storage are done using a barcoding system. All vectors are barcoded to ensure identity. When a vector vial is barcoded, it is read by a computerized scanner and this information is transferred to the database tracking system. All vectors are stored in a specific location within a dedicated -80ºC freezer. The freezer is powered by the central BCM power supply and in the case of a power failure the freezer will be powered by a series of back-up generators. The freezers are also equipted with multiple alarm systems one of which alerts the BCM security of temperature flucuations.

Once you deposit a vector into our collection, you no longer need to deal with replying to random and potentially multiple requests for your vector - we do all the work. You also will not need to deal with the hassles of shipping - we'll take care of it, including all documentation for international requests.

Benefits to Vector Requestors

The benefits here are obvious. You can view our vector database, read peer-reviewed articles related to the vector, and request a service for expansion of the vector. All vectors in our repository are identity tested and you can be assurred that the vector you receive will be of high quality.

Our repository will also save you months to years of work and thousands of dollars!!

Our hope is that the repository will facilitate collaborations among requestor and depositors and make significant contributions to the scientific community

Check back with us in the near future to download request for depositing and requesting vectors.
